Three Expatriate Law finalists announced for top award

Expatriate Law is thrilled to announce not one, not two, but three finalists at this year’s Family Law Awards 2022.

Byron James and Sonny Patel, both Partners at Expatriate Law, have both been shortlisted in the ‘International Family Lawyer’ category at the prestigious award which recognises the important work of family lawyers. Hero Lomas, also Partner at Expatriate Law, has been shortlisted in the ‘Family Law Commentator of the Year’ category for her work with ‘Family Law Live!’ along with collaborators at 36 Family and Anthony Gold.

They were chosen by a judging panel made up of the heads of the Family Law Bar Association, Resolution, the Association of Lawyers for Children and the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, along with Family Law editors and publishing professionals.

Byron James heads up the United Arab Emirates office where he has been based for several years. He has an expert understanding of the local law and culture and is an expert in the changing family law landscape in the region.

Sonny Patel is head of the Singapore office where he has been based since its opening in 2019. He acts for British expatriates in the region and conducts their family proceedings through the English courts. His clients appreciate his level-headed, resolution-driven approach to their cases to obtain the best outcome.

Hero Lomas practises as a solicitor, collaborative lawyer and mediator and specialises in complex financial issues arising on divorce that have an international element. Family Law Live! is a topical chat show which has broadcast over 30 episodes since its launch in 2020. It takes the format of a permanent panel interviewing guests and is hosted by Hero Lomas, Fiona Lyon, Partner at Anthony Gold LLP, and Hannah Jones, Counsel at 36 Family.

Alexandra Tribe, Managing Partner at Expatriate Law, said:

This is such wonderful news and I am so proud of our team. Both Byron and Sonny have had some amazing results in complex cases and this recognition is the cherry on top. I am so pleased that Hero with Family Law Live! is also acknowledged in this year’s awards. It has amassed more than 200 followers over its 30 episodes since its launch in 2020. We’re looking forward to supporting the winner at this year’s ceremony.

The Family Law Awards launched in 2011 by Family Law, an imprint of Lexis Nexis whose portfolio includes a number of leading family law titles and online solutions.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 28 November at the Park Plaza  Westminster Bridge in London.
